Lisa Newsome, MD

Dr. Newsome received her B.A. in Chemistry-Biology from Immaculata College in Immaculata, Pennsylvania in 1983.  She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1987.  She then went on to obtain her Medical Degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, and was awarded her degree in 1990.  Her postdoctoral training included: (1) a residency in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center; (2) an internship in the Department of General Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center; (3) a residency in the Department of Anesthesia at Vanderbilt University Medical Center; and (4) a residency in the Department of Anesthesiology at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  She also completed a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at Wake Forest University in 1995.

Dr. Newsome has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology since 1995, and has been practicing since then.  Her professional memberships include:  The American Dental Association (ADA), the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists (NCSA), the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA), the Society of Pediatric Anesthesiologists (SPA), and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesiologists (SAMBA).

Dr. Newsome has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards.  These include: (1) the Dr. Morton Amsterdam Award in Periodontal Prosthodontics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1987, and (2) the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists in 1994. She was listed as one of “America’s Top Anesthesiologists” in the “Guide to America’s Top Anesthesiologists,” and she was also listed in the Cambridge Who’s Who Registry of Executives and Professionals.

Her areas of professional interest include: (1) Outcomes in Ambulatory & Office-Based Anesthesia; (2) Regional organ effects of various inotropes and vasoactive agents utilized in cardiac surgery and non-cardiac surgery; (3) Perioperative management of patients with drug-eluting coronary stents; (4) Outcomes in pain management in thoracotomy patients; & (5) Use of Exparel for postoperative pain management in third molar extraction surgery.

Dr. Newsome is excited about Valleygate Dental Surgery Center of the Triad, which will become an integral part of the Triad Dental Community. She is thrilled to be part of this caring and innovative team, dedicated to serve the various needs of the dental patients in Greensboro, High Point & beyond.

VDSC of the Triad is unique in that the anesthesiology group formed is finely attuned to the needs of dentists so that the highest level quality of care can be provided to Triad dental providers and their patients. As Dr. Newsome was originally trained in Dentistry, the anesthesia team has an important understanding of what practitioners need perioperatively to provide the best possible care to patients.
